Intent
Safe Sedation Training (SST) is intended to provide part of the basis for a standardized institutional credentialing and privileging process for sedation practice. The SST course curriculum was developed by sedation experts using respected, scientifically grounded sources. The content is designed to be consistent with professional society practice guidelines relating to sedation practice.
For both moderate and deep sedation practice, the SST curriculum (SSTmoderate, SSTrefresh, and SSTdeep) should be regarded as only part of the training process. Based on state law, organization policy and other factors, institutions determine what additional training compents are required for credentialing and privileging, including elements such as documentation of clinical experience, simulation training, and mentored practice.
