The Syllabus

Deep sedation is a controlled state of depressed consciousness where a patient is not easily aroused. Unlike general anesthesia, a patient usually can still have a conscious response to repeated or painful stimulation. Unlike moderate sedation, deep sedation carries more risks and requires a specialized set of knowledge and training.
